To ECOBOX αποτελεί αντικείμενο μελέτης του διεθνούς Διαγωνισμού Οut of the Box που διοργάνωσαν το περιοδικό Dezeenκαι η Samsung, για τον σχεδιασμό ενός καινοτόμου επίπλου για το σπίτι,
το οποίο προκύπτει από την ανασύνθεση της συσκευασίας μιας Συσκευής Τηλεόρασης Samsung.
The ECOBOX summarizes our participation in Dezeen x Samsung Out of the Box Competition, for the design of innovative new objects for the home, that can be made by repurposing cardboard packaging.
To ECOBOX αποτελεί ένα νέο χρηστικό αντικείμενο αποθήκευσης και ανακύκλωσης για το
σπίτι, κατασκευασμένο από κυματοειδές (οντουλέ) χαρτόνι. Έχει σχεδιαστεί ως ένα
αναδιπλούμενο στοιχείο, το οποίο εμπεριέχει ένα συρτάρι 12 λίτρων και έναν
ανοιχτό αποθηκευτικό χώρο 23 λίτρων. Το συρτάρι φέρει άνοιγμα στο πάνω μέρος
του, ώστε να μπορεί να χρησιμοποιηθεί ως κάδος ανακύκλωσης χαρτιού.
Τhe ECOBOX is an innovative object, made from corrugated cardboard that promotes recycling in the home. It has been designed to enclose a drawer and an open storage unit with a dynamic folding element. Its capacity is estimated 35lt it total (12l volume of a drawer and 23l of an open unit).
The reuse and repurposing of Samsung’s packaging gives birth to a new object for the home that can be used as a recycling bin and as a storage unit for newspapers, magazines and empty bottles at the same time. The ECOBOX reinforces Samsung’s aim to be more sustainable, become an integral part of the recycling process and cultivate environmental awareness.
Όσον αφορά στα
σχεδιαστικά του χαρακτηριστικά, το αντικείμενο χαρακτηρίζεται από αιχμηρή,
χαρακτηριστική γεωμετρία, η οποία προκύπτει από μια διαδικασία αναδίπλωσης και
χρήσης της ελάχιστης δυνατής ποσότητας κόλλας.
Η πορώδης δομή της γεωμετρίας δημιουργεί δύο χώρους σε αντίστηξη
(κλειστό/ανοιχτό) με ενδιαφέρουσες σκιές στο χώρο. Κατά την τοποθέτηση του σε
χώρους του σπιτιού, το ECOBOXγίνεται αντιληπτό ως ένα γλυπτικό αντικείμενο, το οποίο
ταυτόχρονα μπορεί να αξιοποιηθεί ως κάδος ανακύκλωσης.
In terms of the Design; the ECOBOX is characterised by a sharp, significant geometry, generated via folding process and minimal adhesive use. Its porous structure supports duality in use, creating two spaces in contradiction (closed/open) and interesting shadow effects. When placed in communal spaces the ECOBOX is recognised as a sculptural object that blends into the home but is, in fact, a bin in disguise.
Το ECOBOX συναρμολογείται με μόνο 26 κοψίματα, 9 αναδιπλώσεις και
με επάλειψη κόλλας μόνο σε 4 επιφάνειες. Αρχικά, κόβεται το ανάπτυγμα και
χαράσσονται οι ακμές που πρόκειται να λυγίσουν. Στη συνέχεια τοποθετείται κόλλα
στις επιφάνειες που σημειώνονται στο διάγραμμα. Η δομή πλέον είναι σταθερή.
Κόβεται το ανάπτυγμα του συρταριού και χαράσσονται οι ακμές που θα λυγίσουν.
Τοποθετείται κόλλα στις επιφάνειες που σημειώνονται στο διάγραμμα και το
συρτάρι τοποθετείται στο εσωτερικό της δομής του ECOBOX. Το
παραλληλόγραμμο που έχει κοπεί στην κορυφή του αντικειμένου αποτελεί το σημείο
ρίψης των απορριμάτων, ενώ η τριγωνική επιφάνεια που λυγίζει στο εσωτερικό της
δομής, επιτυγχάνει την σταθεροποίηση της θέσης του συρταριού. Το ECOBOX
είναι έτοιμο για χρήση.
The ECOBOX is assembled by only 26 cuts, 9 folds and 4 areas of adhesive use. At first the footprint of folding element is cut and the folding edges are engraved. Adhesive is placed on the surfaces depicted in the assembly diagram. The structure is now stable. The footprint of the drawer then is cut. The folding edges are engraved. Adhesive is placed on the two surfaces highlighted in the assembly diagram. The drawer is placed inside the folding element. The parallelogram cut out on top is for the disposal of recycled materials and the folded triangular surface in it, serves as a retaining element for the drawer. The ECOBOX is now ready for use.
