Η ακαδημία γκολφ και ο αθλητικός σύλλογος Ayla (Ayla Golf Academy & Clubhouse) αντλεί έμπνευση από το φυσικό τοπίο των αμμόλοφων και των βουνών που περιβάλλουν την έρημο, όπως επίσης και την αρχιτεκτονική κληρονομιά των αρχαίων Βεδουίνων. Ο πρωτότυπος και οργανικός σχεδιασμός των κτηρίων σχηματίζει τον εμβληματικό πυρήνα του μικτής χρήσης εγκατάσταση στην όαση Ayla.
Το 1.200m2 κτήριο είναι μέρος της πρώτης φάσης της κατασκευής από τα 44km2 του κέντρου αναψυχής που βρίσκεται υπό κατασκευή στην Aqaba της Ιορδανίας. Η εγκατάσταση αυτή περιλαμβάνει χώρο διαμονής, ξενοδοχείου και εμπορικής χρήσης, όλα συγκεντρωμένα γύρω από ένα γήπεδο γκολφ με 18 τρύπες. Στον αθλητικό σύλλογο λειτουργούν καταστήματα, εστιατόριο, μπαρ, γυμναστήριο και σπα, ενώ η ακαδημία γκολφ περιλαμβάνει εξίσου καταστήματα και εστιατόριο, όπως και εσωτερικό/εξωτερικό χώρο που αναλύει τις κινήσεις και τα δεδομένα του παίκτη στο γκολφ.
Η ιδιαίτερη αρχιτεκτονική μορφή του Ayla Golf Academy & Clubhouse καθιερώνει μια σύνδεση με τη φύση αιχμαλωτίζοντας την ατμοσφαιρική, ζωντανή ομορφιά του κυματιστού τοπίου. Ένα τεράστιο κέλυφος από σκυρόδεμα καλύπτει την περιοχή του προγράμματος περικλείοντας τους εσωτερικούς και εξωτερικούς τοίχους κάθε όγκου. Το κυρτό εκτοξευμένο σκυρόδεμα του κελύφους αναμειγνύεται με την άμμο σαν αμμόλοφοι, αντί να υπάρχουν συμβατικοί τοίχοι και οροφές. Τα ανοίγματα προσφέρουν θέα προς τα βουνά της Aqaba. Ο διαβρωμένος χάλυβας στις διάτρητες επιφάνειες φιλτράρει το φως, όπως το παραδοσιακό αραβικό “Mashrabiya”. Το ιορδανικό μοτίβο ενέπνευσε το τριγωνικό πάττερν των ανοιγμάτων, ενώ οι αποχρώσεις των γύρω βουνών αντηχούν στα χρώματα του εκτοξευμένου σκυροδέματος και των μετάλλων.
Η κατασκευή του πρότζεκτ είναι αποτέλεσμα ενός προγράμματος ανταλλαγής γνώσεων μεταξύ του ευρωπαϊκού γραφείου Oppenheim Architecture και των ντόπιων εργατών. Τεχνικές χρήσης του εκτοξευμένου σκυροδέματος διδάχθηκαν στους εργάτες στα πρώτα στάδια ώστε να αναλάβουν την ευθύνη διεκπεραίωσης του έργου και να αποκτήσουν ειδικευμένες δεξιότητες. Ένας ντόπιος καλλιτέχνης βοήθησε, επίσης, στο σχήμα του κτηρίου εφαρμόζοντας μια παραδοσιακή τεχνική βαψίματος στις εσωτερικές επιφάνειες, δίνοντας μια ωμή, γυμνή/ χωρίς διακόσμηση όψη που παραμένει πιστή στο γενικό πλαίσιο και την έμπνευση.

Ayla Golf Academy & Clubhouse takes inspiration from the natural dunescapes and mountains of the surrounding desert as well as the architectural heritage of the ancient Bedouin. The innovative and organic design of the building forms the iconic core of the Ayla Oasis mixed-use resort development.
This 1,200 square meter building is part of the first phase of a 44 square kilometers leisure development currently under construction in Aqaba, Jordan. The development encompasses residential, hotel and commercial space, all centered around an 18-hole signature golf course. The Clubhouse features retail, dining, bar/lounge, banquet, fitness, and spa components; while the Golf Academy includes retail, dining, and indoor/outdoor swing analysis studio components.
The distinct architectural form of the Ayla Golf Academy & Clubhouse establishes a unique connection with nature by capturing the elemental, vibrant beauty of the rolling desert landscape. A massive concrete shell drapes over the program areas, enveloping the interior and exterior walls of each volume. The curved shotcrete shell blends with the sand like dunes instead of having conventional walls and ceilings. Openings grant views towards the spectacular Aqaba Mountains in the background. Corten steel perforated screen filters the light, similar to the traditional Arabic ‘’Mashrabiya’. Jordanian patterns inspired the triangular pattern of openings while the tones of the surrounding mountains are echoed in the colors of the shotcrete and the metals.
The construction of the project is the result of a knowledge exchange program between the European office of Oppenheim Architecture and local workforce. Shotcrete pouring techniques were taught to workers in the first phases so that they could take ownership of the construction and obtain specialized skills. A local artist also helped shape the building by applying a traditional pigmentation technique to the interior surfaces, granting a raw, unadorned look that stays true to its context and inspiration.
